Last week, I blogged about an auction on Sold.sg to bid for a Charity Valentine’s Dinner Date with me to help The Spastic Children’s Association of Singapore (SCAS) (link here). On Thursday, 16th February, I finally met the winner of the auction, errorbid, who “won” me for a dinner that is jointly organized by Omy.sg and sponsored by Limoncello Italian Restaurant. Including the $45 and the tokens purchased for bidding, I have raised $270 for SCAS and I am very happy to do my humble part for this charity auction.
On my way to the dinner, I was very curious who was “errorbid” as I seriously have no idea who was she or he. A lot of friends asked me about it too and would I still go out for dinner if the winner is a guy. Would that be awkward? Nope, it won’t be as the 10 bloggers and their auction winners were split into smaller groups for a group date dinner. Over at my table, there was me, Joanne-Marie Sim (in green dress) and William Tan (white shirt on the right) with our auction winners.
If you have guessed correctly in the previous photo, errorbid is Liz Chen who works as a Product Executive in a humble company and was once an entrepreneur. From what I know, she had spent a lot purchasing the tokens from Sold.sg and I am thankful that she won. What makes me more touched is that she is a vegetarian yet knowing there are meat and seafood on the menu, she still bid for this charity dinner to do her part for SCAS.
We were seated by the servicestaff from Limoncello and were served the Valentine’s Day 5-course dinner. Everything below are in huge sharing portions, which I presume the guys can serve the lady. For appetizers, it started off with the Antipasti Limoncello. There were Burrata Cheese Served with Grilled Vegetables, Rucola Salad, Cherry Tomatoes and Parma Ham. What a sumptuous spread to begin the meal for the night!
The second appetizer was the Vitello Tonnato that has Roast Veal Served with Tuna and Capers Sauce. This dish seems more popular with the guys on my table as it disappears faster than the Burrata Cheese.
Lastly, the third appetizer, Impepata Di Cozze, Sauteed Mussels in a Delicate Wine and Tomato Broth, Amalfi Style. Very lovely and appetizing dish as I love the tantalizing broth but the mussels were disappointing in size.
Here comes the Perma Ham Napolitana Pizza! We joked saying why were there parma ham again as it was in antipasti appetizer and a separate serving of perma ham. This pizza was delish with my favourite fresh rocket salad but we hope there won’t be anymore parma ham for the night.
As Liz is a vegetarian, the chef had specially prepared a Risotto con Porcini e Profumo di tartufo, Risotto with porcini mushrooms and truffles aroma for her. I tasted a little of it and oh my, I love it so much especially with the truffle oil in it! Can I exchange my pizza for this too?
Between our meal, we were called to witness the presentation of the donation cheque to SCAS and we were each presented with a certificate of appreciation by Sold.sg.
Coming back to the dinner, we were served the Scialatielli Amalfitana, Homemade Amalfi Coast Udon like Pasta with Fresh Seafood. Probably because it wasn’t served warm, it didn’t taste as good as I expected to be. Honestly, this tasted like seafood fried hokkien noodles sans the dark sauce.
Being a pasta lover, the Cannelloni Di Vitello, Homemade Cannelloni Filled with Ricotta and Veal was my favourite of the night. The tomato based sauce had the right creamy texture and the pasta was nicely filled with veal and ricotta. This is a lovely and fantastic dish that won’t leave a mess twirling pastas over a dinner date.
Another person favourite of the night was the Costata Di Maiale, Pan Seared Kurobuta Pork Glazed with Apricot and Balsamic which I tried tempting Liz with. She was looking at me eating with the “heavenly” expression on my face. The kurobuta pork indeed was droolicious as the was so succulent and the surface had a little charred flavour. The apricot and balsamic complemented the meat very well!
Some guests felt that the Bistecca Grigliata, Grilled Ribeye Tagliata of Beef were too raw but I thought it was just nicely done medium rare to savour the goodness of it without being overly cooked. It was beyond words to describe the marbled fatty parts melting away in the mouth.
Ending off the sweet Valentine’s Charity Dinner on a sweet note, a Medley of Desserts were served on a huge platter. The homemade Profiterols with warm chocolate fudge seems to be a major hit among everyone. However, I felt that it was too sweet to my preference as I enjoyed the Panna Cotta more.
Once again, I thanked Liz for having such a big heart to help the SCAS and hope she had an enjoyable night with the food and accompany. It was our first time dining here and we were filled with so much food.
Happy and meaningful night for everyone as we got to make new friends as well as with the staffs of Sold.sg and SCAS.
Cheers to the Bloggers – Sold.sg online auction as we raised more than $2,000 for SCAS. On top of that, Sold.sg donated $1 for every $2 raised so we have more than $3,000 in total! Three cheers to SCAS and I hope the funds raised will benefit the children greatly.
