I am sure by now, everyone has heard of Gardens by the Bay as it had generated a lot of hype last Friday when the doors were officially opened to the public. Also, Jason Mraz’s concert tickets were sold out way before 29th June and a crowd of more than 15,000 thronged southwards to the “Central Garden” of Singapore.
I was very excited to be at Corrinne May’s concert on 30th June as part of the Rhythm with Nature program presented by ANZ, with my loved one at The Meadow. During the media preview of Gardens by the Bay, I was uber excited when I heard that she will be performing here among the lush greenery. Being a fan of her, I have always love her songs as they are very touching and inspirational to me.
Fortunately for us, the weather on Saturday was cool and cloudy so we do not have to walk over to Dragonfly Bridge in Gardens by the Bay via the Lions Bridge linking from Marina Bay Sands in the sweltering heat.
Here we are, at The Meadow with thousands of people seated on picnic mats on a cool Saturday evening while waiting for Corrinne May to take the stage.
It was a very leisure atmosphere as the crowd were mainly young adults and adults. It was surely a relaxing and laid-back day, away from work with the Central Business District visible from a distance.
Corrinne May kicked off the concert on the piano. Crooning her popular songs such as “Safe in a Crazy World”, “Free” and “Save Me”. She also sang some songs from her latest album “Crooked Lines” released earlier this year.
Into the third and fourth song, fireworks penetrated her soothing vocals, exploding from far away because of the National Day Parade 2012 rehearsals.
Corrinne May performed on the guitar too with songs like “Beautiful Seed”. Ever since that night, this song has been my favourite in my playlist.
Some of Corrinne May’s fans were standing near the front of the stage snapping photos of her and singing along to some of her songs. I love the spirit of the crowd as everyone was enjoying the night away with Corrinne’s songs and her little jokes.
Here’s a photo of the crowd during her performance.
At the end of the concert, Corrinne and her band bowed and waved goodbye to everyone. Her musician and producer husband, Kavin Hoo, was on the piano to support her too. Concluding the night, Corrinne was inspired by the National Day fireworks earlier and sang “Song for Singapore”, theme song for National Day 2010.
Before leaving The Meadow, I noticed a crowd by the side of the stage. It was Corrinne May greeting her fans, signing their CDs and taking photos with them! Although it was a short 5 minutes, the fans were very happy as Corrinne was very warm and friendly. It was really a fruitful night to watch Corrinne May perform live and we had a great time being touched by her songs.
Besides Jason Mraz and Corrinne May’s concert, Gardens by the Bay will also be having a series of FREE entertainment such as musical performances by Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Musicity Singapore and Singapore Lyric Opera Children’s Choir with most of the events happening on 7th and 8th July 2012.
